another one bites the dust

it's with a sad heart that i read today that enrico's in north beach closed last night. it was a north beach institution and a san francisco institution. it was an integral part of the music and hipster/beat scene that flourished in the city, and even though it had fallen upon hard times recently, it will still be missed.....

Earliest memories of "Banduch's Joint" go bact to when it was down the hill toward the Financial District and was booking unknown funny men such as Bill Cosby, Shelly Berman, Mort Sahl and a host of musicians that all went on to great fame. When Banduch moved up to Broadway many thought it would be a disaster...wrong...all of his friends followed and with his being there every night, (wearing the ever present beret) holding court the place was jumping from the very beginning. Spent many a lunch hour and/or evening there, sometimes at the bar, sometimes at one of the small inside tables and a lot at one of the wonderful ouside tables that caused a furor with the local health department at the beginning. There were always celebs (pals of Banduch) milling around and causing the tourists to go ballistic. Truly a great joint and you are correct, it will be missed.
